News that is bad

Hey hey, Emily here again.

Since my last post we had our UCR joint practice. Very fun, very grueling (my back was aching like heck afterward). We shared some mind-bending drills with them (Jamie's crazy kiai-ing hap-hap drill, lol) and relearned the Movement Drill :)

But yeah. In other news, UNFORTUNATE OCCURRENCE...

The shime disappeared from the Pitzer Student Center's locked closet sometime in the week after the Japanese Special Dinner. We suspect theft.

Yeah... we're looking into buying a new one right now. It's... a sad situation.

Otherwise, on the plus side, we have ~10 people regularly coming to the newcomer practices :) All 5Cs represented! Hopefully this will keep up.

Keala! Come visit us! :D

Over and out,
Emily

Yo yo yo

Hey all, Emily here.

The Japanese Special Dinner went well, IMO. :) We played Odaiko and Hachijo.

There has been a lot going on, and a lot coming up! It's kind of crazy, and figuring out the logistics of everything is a bit time-consuming, haha.

What has been up:
  • We ordered scrubs so our pants and such can be more uniform!
  • Bought long pine dowels from Home Depot and made 9 new pairs of bachi - also coated with tung oil. You guys had a lot of stuff left over. Thank goodness you had tung oil! I think they improved the durability of the bachi.
  • Bought lots of screws and other things to use to reinforce the stands so that they are less likely to break. Benson and I are figuring this out (I think? BENSON? XD).
  • Next weekend we plan on going to UCR to have a joint practice with Senryu Taiko. Scary! We're going to share drills and perform songs for each other. @__@ uguuu. There's been so little time since school started that I don't really feel prepared. :(
  • There's an older lady taiko player in Claremont from the East Coast (Massachusetts, I think?) that asked us if we would like another player or someone to help teach. I think we're going to take her up on the latter.
  • Nov 2 - Scripps Art Gallery opening performance
I think that's all for now? I really hope y'all are doing well wherever you are. :) We really miss you alums!

Our Very Own Blog.

:) Hi all!

We wanted to make a blog especially for our Psyko Taiko alumni to let y'all know what we've been up to.

So... this past Saturday practice, we named Jamie's solo-accompaniment drill (the one that sounds like... "DON -do-don-do-don- DON -do-don-do-don- DON -do-go- Don -do-go- (x2)...") as "Tanoshii" (たのしい). :D One of the newcomers suggested the name, since he thought the drill was fun.

Today, we have our first ever Gig for Fall '09! We're playing at the Japanese Special Dinner at Oldenborg. :D More updates on it later.
